Elvis got involved in Martial Arts at the age of 10 in Richmond Hill
Ontario taking up karate. His dad wanted to put him in the Martial Arts
to help his skating, but also to protect himself since Elvis was not a big
kid. He trained in Karate until the age of 16 and received his black
belt.
From this point Elvis felt that he needed something more, and needed to
find a style that would truly fit him. He tried a few different schools
before he ended up meeting Sifu Glen Doyle a 3-time Canadian Kung Fu
Champion back in 1989.
Sifu Doyle’s style of kung fu “Hung Gar” was for combat and not flash and
that is what caught Elvis’s eye. From there, Elvis began using Kung Fu
training exercises to help his skating and he never looked back.
In 1995 Elvis and Sifu Doyle were invited to the World Wushu
Championships, which were held in Baltimore Maryland. This was the first
time this Championship was held outside of Asia, so the television
audience was huge. They performed in the event’s opening ceremonies and
received two standing ovations. Their performance lasted an exhausting
non-stop 7 minutes in total and had such an impact on the audience that
the team to follow their performance decided to wait until the closing
ceremonies to perform.
When Elvis’ skating commitments lessened, he competed in the 2005 WKA
Canadian Championships and placed 1st in the Kung Fu division. From there
he competed in his first World Championships and took a very impressive
SILVER medal.
Currently, when his schedule allows, Elvis teaches at Sifu Doyle’s martial
arts school; CEAD BUA FIGHTING FACTION in Milton, Ontario Canada. Elvis
also plans on competing in the WKA World Championships again, when they
return to North America.
